Plaque for Sam Chew Lain’s Mausoleum Tomb and Reflection Seat, Chinese Section

Held 10am Saturday March 18, 2023, Lawrence Cemetery, Gabriel Street

Sam Chew Lain was a prominent figure in the history of Lawrence and the Chinese Camp. The plaque on his tomb acknowledges his longstanding membership of and contribution to the Masonic Lodge St George. The tomb is globally unique in being the final resting place of a Chinese man and his Scottish wife in a Gothic style structure.

The Reflection seat is in the Chinese section of the cemetery and has recently been completed thanks to the generosity of Chinese Camp descendants.
